Dr. Yang Jianli of Initiatives for China has been named one of China’s top 100 public intellectuals for 2011 by BOXUN, a leading online Chinese language magazine.  BOXUN is one of the most widely-read and influential non-governmental online Chinese news services in the world, and Dr Yang was honored to receive this prestigious recognition for the 3rd consecutive year.  He previously was named among the top 100 in both 2009 and 2010.  Upon receiving news of this year’s award, Yang called upon Chinese intellectuals to take a greater role in public affairs.
“I call for more intellectuals in China to pay attention to public affairs as concerned citizens,” he said.  “We must resume our role as the conscience of Chinese society, caring for the well-being of others and for those who suffer needlessly or unjustly.”
