Panel discussion and rally on November 5 to highlight abuses in China
NYC, NY – Renowned Chinese human rights activists, dissidents, former political prisoners and victims of China’s gross human rights violations will hold two events in New York City on November 5 to call on member states of the United Nations not to support China’s membership vote to join the UN Human Rights Council.
WHO: Hosted by Dr. Yang Jianli and participated by various New York pro-democracy and human rights organizations.

Rally against China’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council Action

China’s horrific human rights records and current practices have repeatedly proven that it is unfit to join the UN Human Rights Council, and that it is nowhere near ready to accept an international leadership role on the UNHRC. As of last week, 8,587 people signed onto the petition opposing China’s membership in the UNHRC with increased number of Chinese citizens led by renowned dissident He Depu, 22 legislators from Hong Kong including theHonorable Albert Ho Chun-yan and the Honorable Lee Cheuk-yan, and a half dozen Hong Kong NGOs . Many of the petitioners are themselves victims of China’s gross human rights violations. \It is only a week away from the UNHRC election on November 12 and we must amplify our efforts to press China to take specific and significant steps to improve human rights before it is eligible to take a seat in the UNHRC. Please join us in the events to oppose China’s membership on the UNHRC.
