Wasington, D.C. August 30, 2010–Initiatives for China President and Harvard Fellow, Dr. Yang Jianli, will call on UN HABITAT to reveal the details behind its acquisition of the UN Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo.

 

At a 1 pm press conference in Ralph Bunche park across from UN Headquarters in New York, Dr. Yang will present the case that the UN Pavilion “rests on property stolen from 18000 families by the Shanghai Government.”  According to Dr. Yang, the Shanghai government gave the pavilion without charge to the United Nations. “The United Nations and in particular, UN-HABITAT,  knew or should have known, that it was in receipt of stolen property.”

 

New York State Senator, Tony Avella, will speak at the press conference as well as several  respected Chinese citizens and Charter 08 signatories. Jim Geheran, Director of Initiatives for China will fly to NY from Initiatives for China offices in Washington, DC to be at conference as well.

 

SIT-IN PROTEST INSIDE UN HEADQUARTERS  AT 11:00 AM

The press conference will follow a sit-in at 11:00 am inside UN headquarters by members of the Sparrow Initiative, a group of victims of forced evictions and their supporters.
